For the entire month of July 2016, billboards like the one pictured above will appear throughout Miami-Dade County. This highly-visible effort is part of an ongoing program sponsored in part by Rotary International to stop this modern form of Human Slavery.
The phone number that appears on the billboards goes directly to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center in Washington D.C. and is answered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They provide direct links to local police and sheriff departments to assist callers with information or help, as required.
Over the course of the 2015-2016 Rotary year, District 6990 Rotary Clubs have held symposiums on Human Trafficking for numerous audiences throughout the District including for the Hospitality trade at FAU, for high school students at the Miami Police Department, and for Broward middle school teachers and counselors at the Broward Middle School symposium. Many articles have appeared in local newspapers and magazines touting Rotary’s successes in getting the word out about how to put an end to this terrible plague happening every day in our neighborhoods.
Rotary has made a difference and will continue to make a difference in our local communities. Thank you to all District Rotarians for your contribution to serving above self!
